Embrace Summer: A Time for Self-Reflection and Purposeful Growth
Summer is traditionally viewed as a time for relaxation and recreation, but it can also offer a unique opportunity for self-reflection and purposeful growth. As we approach the midpoint of the year, the warmer, quieter days provide an ideal backdrop for examining our lives, our goals, and the direction we're heading. I invite you to embark on a journey of self-discovery, using the season's warmth as a catalyst for change and revitalization.
Last summer, getting stuck in New Mexico due to unforeseen circumstances created a moment of clarity. It set the stage, while reflecting on last summer and moving into summer currently, to intentionally create a space for self-reflection. For me, it’s necessary in high-pressure careers, like medicine to slow down. The ‘loss of self’ due to the demand of time and energy is so easy to happen. I’ve been there. In some aspects, I am still there. Summer is the perfect time to slow down. Why? The opportunities of the pool, outings, longer daylight, better weather allow for more time outside, communicating with others, socializing, and lack of school compounding the stress of a morning routine. Creativity increases by leaps and bounds! Because of all the above mentioned items, creating space for myself is easier. Traveling opens up doors for self-reflection, a spike of adrenaline due to the excitement of the journey, and sometimes the destination! The summer offers a chance to pause and consider whether our core values have shifted and to identify any pain points or losses that have impacted us.
The episode underscores the importance of acknowledging achievements and missed opportunities alike. By setting intentions for the summer, listeners can focus on defining their core values, reassessing their personal and professional aspirations, and exploring ways to reconnect with passions that may have been sidelined. The message is clear: this season can serve as a powerful period for realignment and personal narrative construction.
I encourages listeners to jot down their thoughts, triumphs, and musings. This simple act of writing can serve as a tool for introspection and can help track personal growth over time. I have hinted at an upcoming workbook designed to aid listeners in this process, offering structured guidance for those seeking to delve deeper into self-improvement, available Memorial Day, 5/27/24!
The next installment, featuring Dr. Jillian Rigert, whose story of transformation is set to inspire and offer valuable lessons for personal and professional rejuvenation. I encourage you to tune in and allow the season's warmth to guide them towards a summer of self-discovery and renewed purpose.
