Pragmatic Mindfulness
Pragmatic mindfulness refers to the practice of mindfulness with a practical, goal-oriented approach. It focuses on applying mindfulness techniques and principles to everyday activities and situations to improve overall well-being and effectiveness. Pragmatic mindfulness emphasizes integrating mindfulness into daily routines and tasks, such as breathing exercises, body scans, or mindful eating. It involves cultivating awareness, non-judgment, and acceptance in the present moment to enhance focus, mental clarity, and emotional regulation.
An example of this would be becoming aware of how we respond. How we respond in words. How we respond in actions. It takes time to hone this skill. It does not happen overnight. However, becoming aware of what triggers you and how you show up daily is a beginning. Being mindful of how you respond during the day at work and at home is part of the practice. Being mindful of how you spend your energy is part of the practice. It can lead to boundaries, which help to preserve energy. Being mindful of what you consume, not just food but with your eyes, and with your soul, is part of the practice. Start with one area, master it, and move on to the next area. Sometimes it requires inner work or shadow work, and it will push you to uncomfortable corners, but the process and the growth afterward is worth it.
